I am Ninja......see me "Ninj" 10/15/2006 Divert your attention this way please...4/29/2006 Food ForaysJust a Quickie...
Bonnie decided to start a new blog all about food the other week, so I thought I'd stick a link on 'ere so people can have a look!
'ere Yar
4/2/2006 Just call me 4 eyes I thought it was time to leave a new rambling as I crawl closer to the edge of that cliff called "30".
So, I turned 29 today, and what did I get I hear you ask? glasses... yes, that's right, glasses...
Staring at computer screens for the last 15 years has finally taken it's toll... it's not all bad tho I guess. My far sight is near perfect, and I only have to wear glasses for working on the pooter, but still!! I'm finally starting to fall apart :S
Off to see Derren Brown at the Cornex for my burfday treat tonight :D should a laugh. perhaps he can hypnotise me to think I'm 21 again if I ask him nicely?
Work's in the throws of E3 madness at the moment as you can imagine... although it seems like plain sailing for the environment team, but hey, we all know that can change! I could be saying good bye to day light by the end of the week. Guess we'll see.
At home I've been getting back in to photography again. I've been developing my own negs then scanning them with my new neg scanner :D it's quite liberating going (partially) analog again for the first time in god know how long. Now the good weather is here I'll start to get out and about to take some more pics, and maybe post some up if I feel so inclined... ;) Me and Bon are off to Ireland at the beginning of June to see some of her family, so hopefully that'll throw up some good photo opportunities!
that's all for now folks...
see yar!
12/19/2005 ERROR ERROR! WHOOOP WHOOOP!It's attack of the little red X's!!!
Mark blew up the server, and deleted all it's data... blugh
Hence all the broken images and links on here now... ho hum :(
12/4/2005 Been a while...Whilst wandering round internet land I stumbled across this 30 min mix L Roy X - Glitchquick very nice bit of dirty breaks. But wait! look who's third in the playlist :D Kraddy - Godzilla (soteg mix)
find out about the DJ here L Roy X
Really need to get back in the habit of posting again :S just seems to have been work/eat/sleep a bit lately... although I have actually been making some tunes again with Tom, so I guess I'll post that up when it's all done and dusted! (prolly some time after Christmas) I've also been messing around with a mini mix at home, I'll have to finish that at some point and post it up too :) if you don't know what a mini mix is, check this out DJ Yoda dunno if I'll live up to the standard of that, but I'm giving it a shot! ;)
9/6/2005 The Opage...9/4/2005 Calling all foodies!Went to the Borough Market in London on Saturday... *drooooool* it's the first time I've been, or even heard of it until Mark and Lex recommended it) it was like dying and going to food heaven, sooo much stuff to choose from, just have a looky at the site to see for yer self.
So, we started off having big fat caffeine kick from Monmouths 0_0 to set us up for the day... totally pees on Starbucks if you ask me. We also bought some of the same Guatemalan coffee, which they were serving that day. After having a little wander round the market to scope out the stalls, we went and had some sushi at Feng Sushi for lunch. It was pretty good, and not a bad price considering it was in London. After that it was time to hit the market for real, and find something for dinner that night at Mark and Lexis'. We ended up getting some Venison loin fillets. not cheap, and you don't get a lot, but I can tell you, they were damn tasty. have a look at the photos to see where we got it from, they had, like 3 headless deers hanging up, dripping blood everywhere :| guess you know it's gonna be fresh!
Mark ended up just seasoning and pan frying them for about 2 minutes on each side, nice and pink inside, perfect :D We had it with some apple, fig and garlic chutney we got from The Garlic Farm stall, which worked really well... also some creamed cabbage with bacon, green beans, roast tatties, and some rye bread from De Gustibus to mop up the juices... that was all washed down with, probably too much, wine. ;)
Oh yeah, also go some brownies and some cheese, but we were all too pissed and forgot to eat them! ah well...
All in all it was a top day and we ended up having some great food :) I'm certainly going to go back there at some point! highly recommended!

8/20/2005 Something for the weekend Sir?Aah hair cut, finally, after being down here for almost 2 months I've found the time to get my mop chopped, and in a proper barbers too. Not the sort of place that asks you who your "regular stylist" is, then laughs when you say you don't have one. And ends up getting some trainee called Justin to do it, who takes pride in telling you "I usually just make the tea, you're the first real persons hair that I've cut!" :|
There's nothing like getting your hair cut at a proper barbers. The sort that asks you if you would "like to have the razor" on your neck. Although here was the time at a barbers in Manchester that I use to frequent. He was razoring my neck and round my ear, when he suddenly goes "erm sorry sir" I'm like "uh?" next thing I know he's pulling away a very bloody tissue. I still have both ears. I might be sad, but I've always liked to have a proper, regular barbers where ever I live, dunno why... I guess it's a deep rooted man thing. I don't like change, it means that I have to talk to new people ;) I must say one thing tho, I've never actually been asked if I'd like "something for the weekend" by a barber... I always did wonder how safe sex and hair cuts went together. Must be a bit like shoe repairs and key cutting, what do they actually have in common?!
8/11/2005 gahI thought I'd post something up here as I haven't for a while, but on reflection I'm totally devoid of anything exciting to talk about... gah!
Might just have a ramble about work instead! Well, as much as I can anyway... here comes the geekness, look away now if you're easily offended by such things. ;)
I've been getting my teeth in to Zbrush lately, and I'm actually enjoying it a lot this time. I had a dabble a while ago and ended up almost booting my pc out of the window because of it's dumb ass UI (why they couldn't have just based it on windows is beyond me) plus their even dumber workflow! I manage to get my head round it a lot quicker this time, and I'm really enjoying it. It's actually pretty easy at the end of the day. The displacement and normal map extraction stuff is excellent. because of the way Zbrush works there's no need for tweaking ray distances or control cages, so it makes the whole process damn quick.
I've also been having a play with Turtle, it works a treat with zbrush displacement maps... and it's bloody quick compared to the likes of Mental Ray. Although, I did manage to find a big fat bug with tiled displacement maps when you have micro polygons turned on. ;) I'm told, that Illuminate Labs are looking into the issues, which is cool. To be fair, it's a new release, and I've heard that they manage to fix stuff pretty quickly. fingers crossed that they manage to sort it before we have to start rendering for proper! another nice feature is the surface extraction plug-in. It's pretty neat and very quick too... the super sampling options make for good results.
I'd love to post some of the stuff I've done, but I'd get a smack on the wrists in the shape of a P45 if I did :( you'll just have to wait for Heavenly sword ;)
See, that wasn't too much of a painful trip in to geeksville ;P 7/27/2005 Coin-op London, is imminent!
Word from Eamon is that we might have a new venue for coin-op (he’s still in negotiations) Proper details will follow when it’s all sorted out, but I can say that it’ll be somewhere off Oxford road.
In the meantime, I got excited and made a new flyer... I decided to ditch the old logo and go for a new one, as its new venue and a new city.
The plan is to get enough photos of peoples’ efforts and put them on the next flyer :) If you really want you can print it out, and make one now... ;)
Download the full res one HERE 7/25/2005 Shameless self promotionI’m surprised I didn’t think of this before... as my msn space tends to get more traffic than the coin-op site, I’ll tout our promo on here... ;) HEARTLESS BITCH <- click links to preview the tracks -> RESTRAINING ORDER
All tracks copyright Attwell/Colvin/Murtagh Created on the edge of the Somerstown estate in Portsmouth, Speedqueen is the by-product of Electro-Breaks night ‘Coin-op’, a local escape from commercial hype nights that plague the seafront. The group comprises of three members Dan Attwell, a producer and graphic artist known as Lo-Res, Tom Colvin a musician and producer known as Atomsound, and Eamon Murtagh, DJ and MC for the Coin-op breakbeat night now playing under the guise of Speedqueen. The music reflects the asphalt environment and darkness of the times, fused together with a love of technology and a yen for escapism. The hard dark undertones hint at the undeniable fact that the drugs don’t work anymore, but there is an edgy power to their sound that would definitely still rinse out any warehouse.
Both tracks rely heavily on recordings made in and around the estate, from the drunken sobbing of two girls in the street at 4 am to the whirs and clicks made by a CCTV camera, to the half caught mutterings of police radio - this is a field recording. I'm not gonna get told off by MSN for doing this am I? ;) 7/22/2005 Finally!Well, I've finally finished one part of the "coin-op - game over" video, (this is the after party one) took me bloody long enough! but I finally found some time to get it done...
click the pic to get at it (right click and save target as)
if it doesn't play you prolly haven't got divx, get it from here cole2k media (go to the "links" section and then click "download direct")
more to follow, but for now, stop whining and watch this! enjoy :D
7/8/2005 one week downIt's almost the end of my first week in Cambridge, and I'm pretty settled already :)
Thanks to all the help I got on both ends, the move went like clock work! although I still haven't unpack completely ;) I'll get round to it... at some point.
My place isn't too bad considering I didn't actually see inside it until I moved in on Saturday! altho it does have an interesting choice of carpet colour(s) ¬_¬ hmmm
So far Work is work... not got my teeth in to anything yet... I guess / hope it'll all kick off next week. All in all tho the place and the people seem cool :)
I stiiiiill editing the coin-op video... :( sorry it's taking so long, I've just been run off my feet for the last week, I reckon I'll try and do some more this weekend if I get a chance! 7/1/2005 Done and dustedThere ya have it... My last day at work is at an end...
Don't think it's sunk in yet :|
This place has had it's ups and downs, but I've had an absolute blast, met some of my bestest friends and worked with some great people. I'll always have a little place in my heart for Climax... it's the place that gave me the break in to the games industry and I'll never forget it for that :)
Now it's time to make some games for big boys and move on to the next level! I'm gonna be a ninja :D woot!
I start my stealth training in 6 days time... can't wait :)
![]() 6/29/2005 a slow and painful deathSo, I've now only got 3 days left at work (including today) and I have nothing to do... absolutely zip. All my work has been given to someone else, and I'm sat here like a plum staring at my monitor. I asked my producer if I could get an early release for good behaviour, but he's not got back to me... so that just leaves me bored. :(
I think I might have broken a rib last night :S We went down to the beach to watch the Trafalgar 200 fireworks, on the walk home, I "miscalculated" a slope and landed flat on my face. very graceful. It hurts when I laugh now :( ![]() Elco took this pic with his new lens (it would have been cheaper to have an actual penis extension, rather than buy that lens) ;D
There's a load more, I'm sure he'll post them up on his blog at some point...
excuse me will I go back to counting the pixels on my screen...
Humph :|
6/28/2005 Little Rudsy's Big adventure...Here's an edit I've done of some video Rudsy took on his way up to Dundee the other day... I won't embed it, cos it's PAL widescreen and will be too big...
so I'll stick link instead! Little Rudsy's Big adventure... (prolly best if ya right click and save target)
and don't forget the sound :D Enjoy! 6/25/2005 Coin-op - ArmageddonThe final coin-op cometh... Considering a lot of people are either at Glastonbury, or off doing other stuff, there seems to be quite a few people still up for it. Hopefully it'll be a good turn out! I've got the DV cam primed, and ready to go for this evening, with an extra battery this time... ya never know, we might even witness another performance from Big Dave ;) if you've not seen it, Click the link below to witness Dave "in his happy place" :D http://www.coinop-uk.com/misc/DAVE.avi ( I've removed the embedded video, cos it was making my page dog slow) I'll be posting the final Coin-op video installment up here sometime next week, (hopfully I'll find time to get it edited before I move) So keep an eye out!
6/24/2005 Geek's cornerI got a pair of Shure E2c headphones a little while ago, and I'm so chuffed, I thought I'd tell you aaaaaall about them (I can see you're excited)
http://www.shurestore.com/earphones/eseries_e2c.html Yeah they're expensive, but if you're serious about your music, then I highly recommend them. I use to think that the sennheisers that came with my Ipod were good until I heard these... They do take a lot of getting use to, cos of the way they fit right in to you ears, and also the way that you have the cable down your back and not your front, but the quality you get out of them is superb, and well worth the hassle. Because they're noise cancelling, it's a very weird sensation when you first start using them. It's almost like you've cut open the front of your head and plugged the music right in to your brain :| yeah it's odd at first, but once you realise that you can then hear stuff in your music that you never heard before then it worth it... plus you only have to have the volume at about half way, thus saving battery life your mp3 player. I found a good test for them, was the other day when I was in London. even on the tube I could hear my music as clear as if I was listening to it in a sound proof room. :D pretty damn impressive considering how noisy some of those shit underground trains are... so, yeah I'd recommend them. If you can get over the odd feeling you first get from them, you're serious about your music and don't mind paying an extra couple of quid... but what ever you do, do NOT buy them from "everything Ipod . com" 2 working days? erm yeah right... not until I sent them a narky e-mail, did my order turn up magically the next day... over 2 weeks late. 6/21/2005 Well, at least I'm not gonna be homeless! Finally found a place to live in Cambridge this weekend… my god it’s expensive there! The place is “ok” but not great. But the Location is defiantly the winner. 30 seconds walk to Mark and Lexi’s, couple of minutes to Tom’s and about 10 minutes to work :D so it can’t be that bad?! Now I’ve just gotta think about getting all my shit down there :S that’ll be fun…
and here it is :D
The “GettingTheHellOuttaPortsmouth-O-Meter” is currently at 8 work days and counting! Woo! 6/15/2005 A little test...Move your mouse over the video to play it... if it doesn't work, it' prolly cos you haven't got DivX Gone PublicI've decided to make my blog public. This means that I've had to "edit" the Rogues Gallery a little... juuuust in case the wrong people stumbled across it Don't forget...The last ever Southsea Coin-op...
